Alfred F. Kane Jr.

February 17, 1927 — July 16, 2014

If you knew Al Kane, we know you have a story to tell. A story that makes you laugh, warms your heart, and leads you right back to the moment it happened. If Al was there, you were part of the fun. His big personality filled every room with infectious energy and joy. He was incredibly strong in mind, body and spirit. Al’s greatest accomplishment was living every moment of his life to its fullest, and encouraging us to do the same with ours.
Al left us on Wednesday, July 16, 2014, leaving behind a library of experiences. From a coal mining family in Pennsylvania, instrumental in making change for coal miner safety, Al went on to serve his country in WWII as an infantry soldier and military policeman. He was fearless with a renegade spirit exemplified by his stories of riding his Harley in (and over and under) Rome after the war. Al started the first organized baseball league in Italy in 1948. His love of the sport continued throughout his life. Al acted in movies in his youth, and would roar with laughter about his favorite role, playing a deceased German solider on horseback.
Al was blessed with marriage to an Italian bride that gave him true love of unparalleled connection, two daughters and decades of experiences spanning two continents. Al was active in local politics, was a laborer and a business owner. He engaged with people from all walks of life, and traveled to many countries, never forgetting to make a friend at every turn.
It is with immeasurable sadness to be without him - our confidant, father, grandfather, mentor, teacher, friend, jokester and even partner in "crime". He left many marks on life, but none greater than that upon our hearts. Yet, through our river of tears, we can't help but think of Al and smile.
Al is preceded in death by his wife Giovanna Marzoli, and survived by his daughters Elena (Ella) Kane, Christina Kane; and grandchildren Nicole Lockwood, Christopher Lockwood.
