In loving memory of Dorothy Louise Slaughter, who graced this world with her presence on November 19, 1932, in Fort Smith, Arkansas. We gather to celebrate a life that brought boundless love and light to all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Dorothy, the cherished daughter of the late Virgil Wilson and Jewell Morris, was enveloped in the warmth of her immediate and extended family throughout her youth. A proud graduate of Lincoln High School in Fort Smith, she embarked on a new journey alongside her mother and sister to Kansas City, where fate intertwined her path with that of her husband, Henry W. Slaughter. Together, they created a nurturing home in Buffalo, New York, where they lovingly raised their four children: Regina, Jewell, Henry, and Stephanie.
Her remarkable career was as diverse and accomplished as her spirit. Beginning her career as a cosmetologist, Dorothy later took a position at Buffalo General Hospital as a nurse's aide, before discovering her aptitude for finance. This newfound passion led her to Marine Midland Bank, where she flourished and ultimately ascended to the esteemed position of bank officer. She relocated to Piscataway, New Jersey to continue her work at Marine Midland Bank on Wall Street. Following her retirement from banking, Dorothy channeled her talents into real estate, assisting clients in securing loan pre-approvals and achieving their dreams of home ownership.
She now joins her beloved daughter Jewell, son Henry, ex-husband Henry Sr., and sister Bettie Robinson in eternal rest, Dorothy’s spirit lives on through her surviving children, Regina Harris and Dr. Stephanie Slaughter. She is also lovingly remembered by her five grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren, and a multitude of nieces, nephews, relatives, and dear friends.
In this solemn hour of reflection, we extend our deepest gratitude to family, friends, and members of the church community for their unwavering support during this difficult time. A special acknowledgment is reserved for the dedicated caretakers and the staff from Hospice Buffalo, whose exceptional care and compassion for Dorothy illuminated her journey in her final days.
As we bid farewell to a remarkable woman, let us honor her legacy by cherishing the memories she left behind and the love she so freely shared. Dorothy Louise Slaughter will forever remain in our hearts.
