George Benkow, cherished husband, devoted father, beloved brother, and treasured friend, peacefully passed away on February 17, 2025, of East Aurora, NY, at the age of 69. He embarked on his eternal journey while enjoying a cruise in the Caribbean with his beloved wife, Kathryn Marie (née Kugler), with whom he shared 44 wonderful years of marriage.
For 43 years, George faced the challenges of C-7 Quadriplegia with unwavering strength and resilience, embodying the spirit of perseverance that inspired everyone around him. He was not only a fighter but also a beacon of hope, demonstrating with grace how to embrace life’s challenges.
George’s legacy continues through his precious daughter, Lydia Marie, who carries forward his kindness and strength. He is remembered lovingly as the devoted brother of Tamara Benkow, and as a cherished son to the late John and Tatiana (née Abramenko). George also held a special place in the hearts of his family as a son-in-law to Dorothy Jean (Ferringer) and the late Alfred A. Kugler Sr.
He was the best friend and brother-in-law to Alfred Jr. (Kathy) Kugler, William Kugler, Richard (Cindy) Kugler, and Jeanne (Barry) Ping, reflecting the bonds of brotherhood that he valued deeply. As an amazing uncle, George brought joy and laughter to many, leaving behind a beautiful legacy through his loving relationships with his nieces and nephews—Jackie (Tim) Rowley, Matthew (Tiffany) Kugler, Dr. Candace (Thomas) Poules, Katelyn Kugler, Andrew (Samantha) Ping, Brian (Amanda) Kugler, Richard Jr., and Haley Kugler. He was also a doting great-uncle to Aiden, Olivia, Bryson, Jade, Brennan, Emmylou, Chloe, Hudson, Amelia, and Dawson, whose lives were brightened by his love. George's love for hunting was shared by his treasured cousin and devoted hunting partner, George Sawrischenski .
George was surrounded by many friends and relatives who provided support and companionship throughout his courageous journey. His warmth and spirit touched the lives of all who knew him.
In honoring George’s life, a Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 26, at the American Legion, 2912 Legion Dr., Eden, NY from 2-6PM , allowing family and friends to come together and share in the joy of his memory. Please join us as we lovingly remember George Benkow—a man who lived with passion, love, and resilience.
