Maureen was a passionate writer. Her novel “My Uncle Owes Me a Favor” recently reviewed and selected for free publishing on Audible earlier this month. She has many articles published in various papers over the years and award-winning poems. She was a registered nurse for over 50 years with many of those years as a heart surgeon nurse in Houston, Texas. Maureen Ann Milligan, 76, of Buffalo New York died peacefully Friday March 1, 2024 holding her mother’s hand.
She was born in Buffalo in 1948 to Grace and Martin Milligan. Her father encouraged her to attend further education and read to her often. After living in Houston Texas for 36 years, Maureen moved home to be close to her mother and be here for her when the time came. They spent many years together taking care of each other and enjoying going on trips together including New York City and Hawaii. Maureen started to write short stories in middle school and hid them in her dresser drawer. In 6th grade she was inspired by a visitor of the school who toured Africa. The poem she wrote as a writing assignment about this visit impressed her teacher so much she submitted it and it was published in the Buffalo News.
Maureen will always be remembered for her peaceful caring nature. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved her.
Maureen was preceded in death by her father Marty Milligan and dearest friend Patsy, and is survived by her mother Grace (Castelluccio) Milligan at 99 years old, her dearest goddaughter Rachel (Nocera) Angrignon, dear cousin Susan (Lyons) Voght, beloved uncle Bill, aunts, cousins and her Buddhist family and friends.
A viewing will take place Monday March 4 from 2-4 at New Comer Funeral home at 5090 Transit Road, Depew New York. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations to Heifer.org in Maureen’s name would be greatly appreciated.
