August 29, 2023 age 94 of Cheektowaga, NY. Beloved husband of the late Frances (nee Schwegler) Lis and the late Mary (nee Murelli) Lis; dearest father of Robert G. (late Donna) Lis, Deborah (Donald) Ruthenberg, Nancy Borawski (Timothy Clements), Susan (Joseph) Keating, James Lis, Michael Szafranski, Dan Borawski and Max (Jessica) Kline; grandfather of eleven grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren; step-father of Jeffrey Balz (fiancée Marie Wagner), Deborah Balz (Susan Davenport) and Richard Balz; son of the late Kazimerz and Julia (nee Bauerfiend) Lis; brother of late Julia (late Francis) Seiler, late William (late Betty) Lis, late Mary (late Lloyd) Ussary and the late Dorothy (late Samuel) Wrzos; also survived by nieces and nephews. Family will be present to receive and friends Friday, Sept. 1st 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the MELVIN J. SLIWINSKI FUNERAL HOME 5090 Transit Rd. (south of Como Park Blvd.) where funeral services will be held Saturday at 8:15 AM and from Queen of Martyrs Church at 9 AM. Interment Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Mr. Lis was a Korean War Army Veteran, joined the Cheektowaga Police Dept. in 1957 Appointed Chief of Police in 1987 and retired in 1990, member of Queen of Martyrs St. Vincent DePaul, Holy Name Society and taught for over 25 years defensive driving for Buffalo Niagara Frontier Safety Council.
