Our History

We trace our roots to the early 1890’s when D.W. Newcomer, a sash and door maker, was called upon to construct a coffin for a close friend. This brief encounter led Mr. Newcomer to enter funeral service by opening D.W. Newcomer’s Undertaking and Livery Service in Kansas City, Missouri in 1893. Followed by his son, David Newcomer, and grandson, Warren Newcomer, the Newcomer family continued in funeral service.

In 1995, fourth-generation funeral director Ren Newcomer and his wife Theresa expanded the family business to New York, and today Ren and Theresa's children, Maggie and John, continue the tradition of providing quality funeral service at a fair price that has guided the family for generations.

In 1965, Melvin J. Sliwinski opened a funeral home in Buffalo. His son David joined the funeral home in 1989, and in 2006 opened a second location at 5090 Transit Road in Depew. In 2023, the Newcomer family bought the Melvin J. Sliwinski Funeral Home in Depew to continue a tradition of excellence in funeral service to Buffalo families.
